LocationThe college is situated at Calicut in Kerala, the southern most state in India. It is conveniently located at the heart of the Calicut town, by the side of Mananchira, adjacent to the Town Hall, around one kilometer away from Kozhikode Railway station There are regular bus services from various nearby important towns to Calicut.
Heritage The GCTE has a rich heritage in the field of Teachers Training. Established in the year 1950, named Government Training College, as an affiliated institution to the University of Madras, offered BT Course in different subjects. The subjects offered were General Science, Mathematics, English, Malayalam and Citizenship. The subjects offered since 1958 included Physical Science, Natural Science, Mathematics, Malayalam, English, Citizenship, Social Studies and Geography.
In 1950-51, there was an intake of 84 students. During the next two years the intake was 86 students. In 1953-54, the strength was raised to 100 students. The strength rose to 113 with the introduction of BEd. course in Hindi and to 120 with the introduction of BEd courses in Arabic and Sanskrit. The institution is now recognized under 2(f) and 12(b)
